Abstract: The purpose of the study is to analyze and evaluate the existing protection patterns of traditional villages, and hope to provide a reference for the optimization of traditional village protection methods. Through field visits, literature reading and case analysis, taking Shanxi Province as an example, the basic situation of traditional village protection is briefly described, and the methods contained in the mode of museum protection and activation protection are summarized. The analysis showed that the whole protection, the main interface protection and the original ecosystem protection under the museum protection mode or the activation protection mode had their own advantages and problems. To reduce the possibility of their shortcomings and maximize their advantages, it is considered that the single method should not be used in the actual protection process. It is necessary to combine them together and create more protection patterns to adapt to different types of villages.
