Breeding of ‘YinuoNo.369’: a New Qualified Variety of Glutinous Maize

Abstract: In order to meet the market demand for both fresh food and grain processing, Hoticulture Institute of Shanxi Academy of Agricultural Science have bred a new variety of waxy maize.‘Yinuo No.369’was a hybrid F1 Developed by crossing inbred line BN23-1 as female parent and inbred line BN51 as male parent. The period from shooting to fresh spike picking was 100-105 days.‘Yinuo No.369’was one kind of compact corn with dark green leaves and a height of 227.3 cm. The spike was 18.8 cm in length, 4.8 cm in width, the position of which was 96.6 cm in height.‘Yinuo No.369’was 14-16 rows with 37.2 grains per row. It holds many high properties such as white spike axes, rigid grain, waxy surface, straight tubular spike and good order array. The commercial characteristic was good for its strong waxy, thin skin and sweet taste after steaming. The average yield was reported to be 14210 kg/hm2.‘Yinuo No.369’was examined and approved by the cultivar registration committee of Chongqing in 2012, which stated that the low-relief terrain, shallow hill, narrow flatland and similar eco-region are suitable for growing it.
