Abstract: Plant type was a reflection of the important crop traits. The study of plant type breeding was indepth on grain and oil crops such as rapeseed, soybeans, rice, corn and wheat. Plant type was an important trait for oil flax. Branch characters indexes can reflect most with oil flax plant type. Previous researchers researched the oil flax economic indicators for branch characters only commonly investigation branch number, but the branch length and branch space distribution state had no investigation and description, this couldn’t reflect the overall situation. This article analyzed and discussed the introducing oil flax traits“layer height of branch” and“branch type”from the following five aspects: the necessity, feasibility, the variety resources and new variety breeding, and cultivation technology research significance, also evaluated actual application results of the national oil flax regional test, and cultivation techniques research. We expected relevant researchers to pay attention on the study of these traits of oil flax.
