Abstract: To study the drip irrigation technology for control of Thrips hawaiiensis of banana, the application status of drip irrigation technology in agriculture and the research progress of drip irrigation technology for pest control in agriculture are reviewed, and the prospect of control of T. hawaiiensis by using drip irrigation is analyzed. The drip irrigation technology has rapidly developed in facility agriculture, providing the feasibility on further study and promotion of pesticides application through drip irrigation. At present, controlling soil harmful microorganisms via drip irrigation system has been widely reported, but little is known on foliar pests control. In addition, T. hawaiiensis is serious on banana, however, there is lack of effective measures to control the pest so far. Thus, using insecticides through drip irrigation application system to control T. hawaiiensis provides a novel application method, and this exhibits a potential of pest management in the future. Overall, further study is needed to clarify the efficiency and technical parameters when insecticides are applied through drip irrigation for control of T. hawaiiensis in banana plantation, moreover, the assessment of pesticide residues and food safety risks are also needed.
