Abstract:

The author gives a brief review over past development of agricultural science and technology (AS&T) in China, a systematic summary of its historical achievements and reform process, and a comparative analysis of its future momentum and policy direction internationally. Then in light of broader domestic and international situation, the author proposes objectives, tasks, and measures for AS&T to move forward in China in the new era, taking into consideration the weak and vulnerable points to be conquered in its development, and imperative needs in pursuit of rural vitalization and agricultural modernization.
