Abstract: We identified some pear varieties of cold resistance in Shanxi Province, in order to achieve parental choice in cold resistance breeding. With 1 year old dormant pear shoots as test materials, the relative conductivity, soluble sugar, soluble protein, proline and bound water content in 7 pear cultivars shoots during the artificial low temperature treatment was investigated, and the correlation of these indexes was analyzed. The results were as follows: (1) The order for the cold resistance of the three cultivars from stronger to weaker was‘Pingguoli’,‘Jinsuli’,‘Jinmili’,‘Yuluxiangli’,‘Xuehuali’,‘Yusuli’and‘Korla fragant’pear. (2) The content of soluble sugar, soluble protein, proline and relative conductivity increased gradually with the reducing of temperature. (3) The content of soluble sugar had positively high significance related to hardiness, soluble protein and proline content had no obvious correlation with the cold resistance. According to the above results, we could conclude that the soluble sugar should be used alone as a screening index of cold resistance in pear under the condition of low temperature stress.
