Study on the adaptability of 9 Syringa varieties

Abstract: The paper aims to study the adaptability of the 9 Syringa varieties in Shandong Province. The authors investigated the growth, phonological period, cold endurance, and resistance to pest and disease of the introduced Syringa varieties. It was found that the 9 Syringa varieties could grow and develop normally, they had strong adaptability. They had normal growth and development, a long florescence and high ornamental value. Cold tolerance of‘Marie Frances’and‘Albert F. Holden’reached Ⅱ level, while that of other varieties reached Ⅰ level. The 9 Syringa varieties showed strong resistance to pest and disease. Therefore,‘Arch Mckean’,‘Krasavitsa Moskvy’,‘Charles Joly’,‘Sensation’,‘Wedgewood Blue’,‘Donald Wyman’and ‘James Macfarlane’were suitable to be cultivated in Shandong Province.
