Effects on Agronomic Characteristics and Yield of Zhengdan136 under Different Row-spacing

Abstract: The objectives of this study were to investigate the influences of row-spacing on maize agronomic characteristics and yield to seek new ways to increase yield by changing row-spacing. Field experiments were conducted in 2014 with randomized block design to study effects on agronomic characteristics and yield in eight row-spacing. Test variety was provided ‘Zhengdan 136’. The results showed that under the same culture condition, there were significant differences on yield but no obvious difference in disease resistance, plant traits and other major agronomic traits among different row-spacing. The best row-spacing was 100 cm equal row and 30 cm plant spacing in double plants which increased 6.7% yield compared with CK. Therefore, in order to gain higher yield under general planting in humpy ground in Northern Hubei,the row-spacing ‘Zhengdan 136’ should be changed to100 cm equal row and 30 cm plant spacing in double plants.
