Research Progresses of Differentiation and Development Genes of Tassel Branch Number of Maize (Zea mays L.)

Abstract: To discover allelic variation of the key genes involved in tassel branch number (TBN) development process and design maize tassel breeding, we summarized mapped-QTLs of TBN, and explained function and regulatory networks of key genes involved in TBN development process. The stable-inheritance major QTLs of TBN were less, and TBN genes derived from mutants showed extreme phenotype, therefore it limited the direct application in maize breeding. We offered proposals including near-isogenic line construction of TBN-QTL and searching excellent allele variations from natural population based on key characteristic of TBN genes, which would contribute to map- based cloning of TBN genes, exploring of excellent allele variations, and molecular breeding of maize yield and plant-type related traits.
