    Meteorological Factors on Freezing Injury of Amygdalus communis During Overwintering in Yingjisha of Xinjiang

    By using the basic meteorological data of 2001 to 2019 from Yingjisha national meteorological observing station and the phenological observation data and freezing injury data, the freezing rate of flower bud and yield of Amygdalus communis were analyzed. Combined with mathematical statistics, the meteorological factors causing frozen flower bud during overwintering period of Amygdalus communis in Yingjisha were studied. The results showed that the lowest air temperature in winter and its lasting days, the lowest land surface temperature and frozen earth depth caused the freezing of Amygdalus communis buds, but there was no obvious impact of the maximum snow depth of winter and its lasting days and winter precipitation. When the lowest temperature was -23℃ to -18℃, its lasting days and the lowest land surface temperature were the main factors causing frozen flower buds.

    ‘Koshihikari’ is a short-grain rice variety. It has been promoted in Japan since 1953 and is the favorite rice of Japanese. Even after more than 50 years of widespread planting, it is still the largest variety of rice planted and promoted in Japan due to its excellent rice quality and long-term consumer reputation. To fully understand the breeding process of ‘Koshihikari’ variety and its unique agronomic traits, and control the genomic information of favorable traits, we used the article “Koshihikari: a premium short-grain rice cultivar - its expansion and breeding in Japan” as the main reference for excerpts and translates, sorted out the history of the variety, and put forward thoughts on the current breeding of high-quality rice in China.

    Adaptability of 30 New Maize Varieties in Northern Henan

    With the change of the examination and approval system, a large number of new maize varieties have emerged in the market. In order to select new maize varieties suitable for regional production in northern Henan and guide local maize production, ‘Zhengdan 958’ was used as control to compare the adaptability, stress resistance and harvest of 30 newly approved maize varieties under field condition. The results showed that the growth period of the tested varieties was 114-120 days, and all the varieties could mature normally in northern Henan, and the male and female could meet normally in the flowering period; the yield of the tested varieties was 8726.97-11973.68 kg/hm2, significantly increased compared with that of control. The yield of ‘Yudan 1851’, ‘Dehe 187’, ‘Yunong76’, ‘Zhongbo 510’, ‘Xundan 1538’, and ‘Luoyu 16’ increased by 10.4%, 8.9%, 7.5%, 7.3%, 5.8% and 4.5%, respectively, among them, the water content of ‘Yudan 1851’, ‘Dehe 187’, ‘Yunong76’, ‘Zhongbo 510’ and ‘Xundan 1538’ was relatively low at harvest time, 21.5%, 21.7%, 19.1%, 19.6% and 18.2%, respectively. The results indicate that five of the 30 varieties, such as ‘Xundan 1538’ and so on, have the characteristics of mechanized grain harvesting in northern Henan.

    The Breeding of New Edible Soybean Variety ‘HeNong 78’

    To promote the production of edible soybean, a high protein content and high yield variety ‘HeNong78’ was bred by simple backcrossing and molecular design breeding with the female parent of ‘HeiNong43’ and the male parent of (‘HeiNong54’ × ‘HeiNong43’) F1. ‘HeNong 78’ was validated and promoted by Heilongjiang Crop Committee in 2019. The 100-grain weight of ‘HeNong78’ ranged from 22 to 23 g, the protein content was 41.75% and the oil content was 20.42%. The average yield of regional trial was 2726.8 kg/hm2, 9.6% higher than that of the control variety ‘SuiNong26’. The average yield of production test was 3009.1 kg/hm2, 11.5% higher than that of ‘SuiNong26’. ‘HeNong78’ had medium resistance to gray spot (MR) and resistance to the SMVⅠ(R), its growing days was 120 and 2450℃ active accumulated temperature above 10℃ was needed. The variety is suitable for planting in the second accumulated temperate zone of Heilongjiang and areas with the same condition in other provinces. This variety integrates the cultivation techniques of high yield and quality assurance, and its breeding has broken the bottleneck of edible soybean production and could provide valuable experiences.

    The Situation of Food Self-supply and Development Countermeasures in Sichuan Province

    As one of the 13 major grain producing provinces in the country and the only one in southwest China, measuring the self-sufficiency rate of grain and analyzing the status of grain security of Sichuan Province is significant to ensure national food security and maintain regional stability. Starting from the five purposes of grain consumption, this article measured the actual grain consumption and self-sufficiency rate of Sichuan Province from 2000 to 2019. The results show that the rigid growth trend of grain demand is obvious, among which, the adjustment of population and consumption structure is the main factor; the enthusiasm of farmers to grow grain has dropped significantly, and the lack of comparative income is an important factor; the structural contradiction between production and consumption is prominent, of which industrial grain and feed grain shortages are the main aspects. Based on the above analysis, this article suggests strengthening the protection of cultivated land and boosting the construction of high-standard farmland; enhancing the enthusiasm of farmers to grow grain and promoting moderately large-scale grain production management; appropriately adjusting the variety structure and improving the quality of grain supply.

    5% Prohexadione Calcium EA: Effects on Lodging Resistance, Yield and Its Related Factors of Wheat

    In order to explore the effect of prohexadione calcium (Pro-Ca) on the growth and yield factors and safety of wheat, taking wheat variety ‘Yumai 49’ as material, different doses of 5% Pro-Ca EA were applied to carry out field experiments after wheat turning green. The results showed that the application of 5% Pro-Ca EA (150-600 g/hm2) could dwarf plant height, reduce internode length, increase stem diameter and stem wall thickness. Pro-Ca could increase the number of ears, grains per ear, 1000-grain weight and yield of wheat. The application during the period of returning to green of 5% Pro-Ca EA 300 g/hm2 and 5% Pro-Ca EA 300 g/hm2 + 0.01% brassinolide SL150 mL/hm2 could achieve higher yield, reaching 7410.0 kg/hm2 and 7560.0 kg/hm2 respectively, increase by 10.7% and 13.0% compared with that of CK. 5% Pro-Ca EA is safe and harmless to wheat, so it is recommended to be popularized in wheat production.

    Improving the rural habitat environment is one of the most important tasks in the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy. This paper mainly summarized the related research on the habitat environment improvement in China, including the rural habitat environment improvement and rural revitalization strategy, the rural habitat environment construction and beautiful rural construction, the key task of habitat environment improvement, the regional differences and existing problems of rural habitat environment, etc. This paper put forward the direction of future research, that is, to deepen the renovation practice research, to carry out theoretical research on the rural habitat environment improvement, to attach importance to village planning management, to improve construction and management mechanisms, and to study on effect, influencing factors and evaluation methods of the rural habitat environment improvement.

    Popularization and Application Strategies of National Approved Wheat ‘Longyu No.5’ with High-yield and Wide-adaptability

    By analyzing the ability of high-yield, stress-resistance, wide adaptability of the national approved wheat ‘Longyu No.5’ and its promotion strategy, the study aims to provide references for high-efficiency breeding and variety promotion of dry land wheat in north China. The characters of new winter wheat variety ‘Longyu No.5’ were analyzed by using the regional experiment and high yield demonstration data of multiple points in north China’s dry land area, including Longdong of Gansu Province. The average yield of ‘Longyu No.5’ was 4922.54 kg/hm2, which was 13.28% higher than that of the control variety, and the yield increasing point (times) rate was 89.97%. The effective ear number was 5.97 million/hm2, the harvest index was 39.6%, and the yield potential in dry land was 6399.0 kg/hm2. In general, more ears and higher harvest index are the basis of realizing high yield potential; cold resistance, drought resistance and disease resistance, high temperature tolerance at later growth stage and small variation of grain weight are the important guarantee for wide adaptability and large-scale extension of ‘Longyu No.5’. In the promotion and application of the variety, the model should include project-based promotion, order-based seed production, contract-based seed breeding, and efforts from research units, local governments, seed industry enterprises and demonstration farmers.

    Nandina domestica ‘Harbour Dwarf’: Tissue Culture and Rapid Propagation

    The aim of this study is to establish a system of tissue culture and seedling production for Nandina domestica ‘Harbour Dwarf’. The stem segments of semi-lignified band buds were used as explants to conduct regeneration study. The comparative experiments, completely randomized orthogonal experiment design of L9(34), range analysis, significance test and LSD multiply comparative analysis were used to discuss the optimal culture medium. The results showed that the highest frequency of shoot induction (71.77%) and survival rate (85.51%) were achieved on MS + 6-BA 2.0 mg/L + IBA 0.1 mg/L + sucrose 30 g/L. The highest proliferation coefficient (6.3) was obtained on WPM +6-BA 1.5 mg/L + IBA 0.01 mg/L + sucrose 30 g/L. Microshoots exhibited best rooting response on 1/2 MS+ IBA 0.5 mg/L + NAA 1.0 mg/L + sucrose 20 g/L + AC 0.2 g/L by producing the highest frequency of root formation (97.63%). Rooted plantlets were transferred to artificial mixture medium (peat: perlite=3:2.V/V) under the green house condition with the survival rate up to 96.67%. An efficient propagation system of Nandina domestica ‘Harbour Dwarf’ was established, and the plantlets could steadily inherit the character of parents. The present system provides technical support for large scale plant production.

    Maize Hybrid Variety ‘Jiyu 228’: Breeding and the New Heterosis Pattern

    The aim is to breed maize varieties with high and stable yield and lodging resistant. ‘Huangrui’ was used as the basic breeding material in this study. ‘Huangrui’ possesses American germplasm with strong stem and high-planting dense tolerance, and has extensive adaptability in Huang-Huai-Hai Area. The high-planting density, large population, and combination of test and selection were used to select the two elite inbred lines‘Ji42’ and‘Ji1877’, then the new hybrid variety ‘Jiyu228’ was successfully selected by crossing the two inbred lines. In the 2-year multiple regional tests, the average yield of ‘Jiyu228’ was 9778.5 kg/hm2, which was 6.38% higher than that of the control. In the production tests, the yield of ‘Jiyu228’ was 9114.0 kg/hm2, which was 5.8% higher than that of the control. 83.75% of the test sites showed yield increasing. Meanwhile, the average lodging rate was only 2.3% in the multiple regional tests and 2.8% in the production tests, respectively. In 2019, ‘Jiyu228’ was approved by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee of China for the summer maize cultivar registration in the Huang-Huai-Hai Area. In conclusion, ‘Jiyu228’ integrates the advantages of American germplasm with strong stem and lodging resistance and Chinese germplasm with wide adaptation, and it also has the characteristics of good yield and high-density tolerance. Meanwhile, this study proposes a new heterosis pattern of maize variety breeding.

    The Relationship Between Leaf Area Index and Yield of Rice: Research Progress

    Leaf, as the material basis for constructing the rice organs, is closely related to the quality of the light environment and the utilization rate of light energy. The leaf area index (LAI) is an important indicator related to rice yield, and is significantly correlated with the light and effective radiation absorption coefficient in rice canopy. In this paper, we reviewed the relationship between the LAI in different growth periods of rice and the yield, and pointed out that the optimal LAI could be increased based on variety selection and cultivation measures, to achieve the high yield. The study could provide a theoretical basis for developing a predicting system of the optimal LAI and for regulating the rational canopy structure of rice.

    Effects of Different Mixtures of Sesame Cake Fertilizer and Chicken Manure Organic Fertilizer on Growth, Quality and Economic Benefit of Flue-cured Tobacco

    By applying different mixtures of sesame cake fertilizer and chicken manure, the changes of quality and economic benefit of flue-cured tobacco were studied. The results showed that pure sesame cake fertilizer was not conducive to the early growth and rapid development of tobacco plants, the mature period was delayed, the growth period was extended, and the agronomic characteristics, economic benefits and chemical composition coordination were poor. In the experiment, 1125 kg/hm2 chicken manure organic fertilizer combined with 375 kg/hm2sesame cake fertilizer had the best effect, which could improve the yield and quality of flue-cured tobacco, promote the growth of tobacco plant in the middle and later period, and increase the yield, output value, average price and ratio of high grade leaves. The application of sesame cake fertilizer could inhibit tobacco mosaic virus and tobacco bacterial wilt, and was harmful to control tobacco brown leaf spot.

    One Year and Multipoint Comparative Test of ‘Xisen 6’

    To innovate the adjusting model of potato planting structure, improve planting benefits, and speed up the popularization and application of the potato variety ‘Xisen 6’ in China, variety demonstration tests were conducted in Tianshui and Dingxi of Gansu, and Wufeng, Xingshan, Badong Chazidian, Jianshi Longping, Lichuan, Tianchishan, Zhushan of Hubei, by taking local main varieties as control, to observe and verify the stability and adaptability of the comprehensive traits of ‘Xisen 6’. Compared with main local varieties, the tests showed that, except Dingxi, Xingshan and Zhushan had small yield increase (3.13%, 7.71%, and 6.91%, respectively), the remaining 6 test sites had significantly higher yield increase than the control, the yield increase in Tianchishan was 36.01%, in Badong was 48.37%, in Jianshi Longping was 34.39%, in Wufeng was 51.60%, in Lichuan was 28.66%, and in Tianshui was 28.63%. It is indicated that ‘Xisen 6’ has strong adaptability, can grow and mature normally in all test sites, and its yield is higher than that of main local varieties.

    Current Status, Problems and Countermeasures of Cultivated Land Rotation and Fallow Subsidy

    The key to the operation of the cultivated land rotation and fallow system is to solve the problem of rotation and fallow subsidy. China’s crop rotation and fallow mechanism started late, and its development is not yet perfect. In terms of crop rotation and fallow subsidy, there are problems such as the lack of legal system protection, the single source of subsidy funds, the unclear subsidy target, the difficulty of determining subsidy standards, and the lack of effective supervision of the use of subsidy funds. In order to ensure further advancement of the pilot cultivated land rotation and fallow, this research proposes to improve the legal guarantee mechanism of rotation and fallow subsidy, actively broaden the sources of subsidy funds, clarify the subsidy targets, formulate reasonable subsidy standards, strengthen the supervision of the use of subsidy funds and so on.

    Breeding of Single-Cross Hybrid Maize ‘Xundan 658’

    The new maize variety ‘Xundan 658’ was bred by Hebi Academy of Agricultural Sciences by using ‘Xun 58’ as female parent and ‘Xun G6Y62’ as male parent. In 2020, the variety was approved by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee, and in 2021, the variety was approved by Henan Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee. The results of multi-year and multi-site tests showed that the new maize variety could adapt to the climate change trend of Huang-Huai-Hai plain and had the characteristics of strong stress resistance, high density tolerance, stable and high yield, good seed setting ability, superior quality and high starch content, and could be used for both grain and forage. As a whole, in order to provide a reference model for maize breeding in Huang-Huai-Hai plain under the new climate condition, the study expounded the breeding process, variety characteristics, yield performance and production application of ‘Xundan 658’. In addition, based on the variety’s characteristics of stress resistance, density tolerance and yield stability, the enlightenment on resistance breeding, selection process and breeding goal was discussed.

    Rooting Mechanism of Plant Cuttings: A Review

    Cutting is widely used in production practice as an important technique of asexual reproduction. However, the low cutting rooting rate of some quality plants still restricts the rapid development of cutting propagation technology, and the key to improve the cutting rooting rate of plants is to find out the regulation mechanism. This article summarized the research on the mechanism of cutting rooting of plant from three aspects of morphology and anatomy, physiology and molecular biology during the adventitious root formation. Combined with the current research status at home and abroad, the process and mechanism of adventitious root formation were explained from the morphology and anatomy, the relationship between adventitious root formation and rooting was analyzed. The key molecular regulation mechanism of adventitious root formation and development was clarified. At present, the research on the rooting mechanism of plant cutting has gone deep into the molecular level from anatomy and physiology. Based on the development trend of molecular biology, it is proposed to use genetic engineering to improve the cutting propagation technology of plants, so as to achieve technological innovation, improve the quantity and quality of reproduction and adapt to the needs of production development.

    Growing Performance and Quality Characteristics of Three Strawberry Varieties Cultivated in Open Field in Nanning of Guangxi

    To select excellent strawberry varieties which are suitable for open field cultivation in Nanning of Guangxi, 3 strawberry varieties ‘Jingzangxiang’, ‘Jingtaoxiang’ and ‘Benihope’ were introduced and an investigation analysis on them was conducted. The results showed that the phenological period of ‘Jingzangxiang’, ‘Jingtaoxiang’ and ‘Benihope’ were similar to that of ‘Sweet Charlie’ under open field cultivation, their fruit soluble solid content was more than 10.5%, the fruit size was moderate, the average yield of single plant was over 0.211 kg, and the yield was more than 18990 kilograms per hectare. The 3 varieties have excellent fruit quality, and moderate or weak resistance, and can be good varieties for promotion under good management of water and fertilizer and integrated pest control.

    Alternative splicing is widespread in plants and is the main source of transcriptome and proteome diversity in organisms. With the development of science and technology, the research methods of alternative splicing have gradually become simple, convenient and efficient, and more and more alternative splicing events have been discovered in plants. The article mainly introduces the mechanism and research methods of alternative splicing in plants, as well as the latest research progress of alternative splicing in several plants, and puts forward suggestions on the research direction in the future.

    Control of Postharvest Anthracnose of Mango Fruits by Luna Sensation and Nativo

    In order to explore the methods of controlling postharvest anthracnose by using fungicide in mango flowering and fruiting stage, Luna Sensation and Nativo fungicides were selected to carry out the experiment of postharvest anthracnose control. A total of 6 treatments were designed, including two application dose gradients of each fungicide, a prochloraz test area and a blank test, to compare the disease index among the treatments. The results showed that the fungicides used in this experiment did not harm the young leaves, flowers and young fruits of mango at flowering and fruiting stage, nor did they affect the ripening of mango. 7 days after harvest, the control effect of Luna Sensation sprayed with 1500 times of concentration was equivalent to that of prochloraz, and the control efficiency reached 72.73%, the shelf life could be maintained for 7 days. The control effect of Nativo sprayed with 750 times of concentration was the second, its control of mango anthracnose during the postharvest storage period was effective, and the shelf life and storage period of mango were prolonged obviously. The presence of a new succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor in Luna Sensation, named fluopyram, could work by inhibiting the activity of succinate dehydrogenase. Succinate dehydrogenase inhibitors impede the mitochondrial function by interfering with four subunits of complex II, inhibiting the production of energy and the growth of pathogenic bacteria. The fungicides in this study are consistent with prochloraz in treatment and have a certain value of popularization and application.

    Drought-resistant and Water-saving Wheat Variety ‘Jimai 262’: Breeding Experience

    To cultivate a breakthrough wheat variety with high and stable yield, drought tolerance, water saving and multi-resistance, taking high-yield variety ‘Linmai 2’ as female parent and high-yield, drought-tolerance ‘Yannong 19’ as male parent, we used pedigree method to polymerize both parents’ excellent agronomic characters, and bred a new wheat variety ‘Jimai 262’ by multi-site and multi-ecological field experiments. This variety was characterized as high yield, good quality, good resistance to disease and tolerance to stress, excellent agronomic characters and could be cultivated in both irrigated land and dry land. In irrigated field variety comparison trial 2010-2011 in Jinan and Mengyin, the average yield of ‘Jimai262’ was 2.87% and 9.41% higher than that of control variety ‘Jimai 22’, and ranked first in both sites. In the dry land regional trail 2012-2013 of Shandong Province, the average yield of ‘Jimai262’ was 9.74% higher than that of control variety ‘Lumai21’, achieved the highest yield increase of dry land variety in the past decade. The grain of ‘Jimai 262’ was big and full, the quality traits such as grain protein content, wet gluten content and flour whiteness were better than that of control variety ‘Lumai21’. ‘Jmai262’ was resistant to hot dry wind, moderate resistant to stripe rust, and the plant height was 67.2 cm. At the later stage, the leaf photosynthetic function period was long, the population was yellowing well, the spike was oblong, the grain number per spike was 37.5, the thousand-grain weight was 44.7 g, and the grain was white and silt. ‘Jimai 262’ was released by Shandong Province in February 2016, it is suitable for planting in arid fertile land and water deficient area without irrigation condition.
