    5% Prohexadione Calcium EA: Effects on Lodging Resistance, Yield and Its Related Factors of Wheat

    In order to explore the effect of prohexadione calcium (Pro-Ca) on the growth and yield factors and safety of wheat, taking wheat variety ‘Yumai 49’ as material, different doses of 5% Pro-Ca EA were applied to carry out field experiments after wheat turning green. The results showed that the application of 5% Pro-Ca EA (150-600 g/hm2) could dwarf plant height, reduce internode length, increase stem diameter and stem wall thickness. Pro-Ca could increase the number of ears, grains per ear, 1000-grain weight and yield of wheat. The application during the period of returning to green of 5% Pro-Ca EA 300 g/hm2 and 5% Pro-Ca EA 300 g/hm2 + 0.01% brassinolide SL150 mL/hm2 could achieve higher yield, reaching 7410.0 kg/hm2 and 7560.0 kg/hm2 respectively, increase by 10.7% and 13.0% compared with that of CK. 5% Pro-Ca EA is safe and harmless to wheat, so it is recommended to be popularized in wheat production.

    Growing Performance and Quality Characteristics of Three Strawberry Varieties Cultivated in Open Field in Nanning of Guangxi

    To select excellent strawberry varieties which are suitable for open field cultivation in Nanning of Guangxi, 3 strawberry varieties ‘Jingzangxiang’, ‘Jingtaoxiang’ and ‘Benihope’ were introduced and an investigation analysis on them was conducted. The results showed that the phenological period of ‘Jingzangxiang’, ‘Jingtaoxiang’ and ‘Benihope’ were similar to that of ‘Sweet Charlie’ under open field cultivation, their fruit soluble solid content was more than 10.5%, the fruit size was moderate, the average yield of single plant was over 0.211 kg, and the yield was more than 18990 kilograms per hectare. The 3 varieties have excellent fruit quality, and moderate or weak resistance, and can be good varieties for promotion under good management of water and fertilizer and integrated pest control.

    Breeding of Single-Cross Hybrid Maize ‘Xundan 658’

    The new maize variety ‘Xundan 658’ was bred by Hebi Academy of Agricultural Sciences by using ‘Xun 58’ as female parent and ‘Xun G6Y62’ as male parent. In 2020, the variety was approved by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee, and in 2021, the variety was approved by Henan Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee. The results of multi-year and multi-site tests showed that the new maize variety could adapt to the climate change trend of Huang-Huai-Hai plain and had the characteristics of strong stress resistance, high density tolerance, stable and high yield, good seed setting ability, superior quality and high starch content, and could be used for both grain and forage. As a whole, in order to provide a reference model for maize breeding in Huang-Huai-Hai plain under the new climate condition, the study expounded the breeding process, variety characteristics, yield performance and production application of ‘Xundan 658’. In addition, based on the variety’s characteristics of stress resistance, density tolerance and yield stability, the enlightenment on resistance breeding, selection process and breeding goal was discussed.

    Maize Hybrid Variety ‘Jiyu 228’: Breeding and the New Heterosis Pattern

    The aim is to breed maize varieties with high and stable yield and lodging resistant. ‘Huangrui’ was used as the basic breeding material in this study. ‘Huangrui’ possesses American germplasm with strong stem and high-planting dense tolerance, and has extensive adaptability in Huang-Huai-Hai Area. The high-planting density, large population, and combination of test and selection were used to select the two elite inbred lines‘Ji42’ and‘Ji1877’, then the new hybrid variety ‘Jiyu228’ was successfully selected by crossing the two inbred lines. In the 2-year multiple regional tests, the average yield of ‘Jiyu228’ was 9778.5 kg/hm2, which was 6.38% higher than that of the control. In the production tests, the yield of ‘Jiyu228’ was 9114.0 kg/hm2, which was 5.8% higher than that of the control. 83.75% of the test sites showed yield increasing. Meanwhile, the average lodging rate was only 2.3% in the multiple regional tests and 2.8% in the production tests, respectively. In 2019, ‘Jiyu228’ was approved by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee of China for the summer maize cultivar registration in the Huang-Huai-Hai Area. In conclusion, ‘Jiyu228’ integrates the advantages of American germplasm with strong stem and lodging resistance and Chinese germplasm with wide adaptation, and it also has the characteristics of good yield and high-density tolerance. Meanwhile, this study proposes a new heterosis pattern of maize variety breeding.

    Brand Building of Agricultural Products in China: A Review

    The brand building of agricultural products is an important symbol of the construction of modern agriculture, which is conducive to promoting the transformation and upgrading of traditional agriculture to modern agriculture, and can provide a huge space for the development of regional agriculture and other industries. This study aims to fully discuss the research status of brand building of agricultural products in China by elaborating the role of branding of agricultural products and reviewing related studies. The study summarized the function of branding in improving the quality and competitiveness of Chinese agricultural products, promoting the industrialization development of agricultural products and boosting the revitalization of rural industries. It also discussed the brand building of ‘three products and one indication’ agricultural products (pollution-free agricultural products, green food, organic agricultural products and geographical indication of agricultural products), the brand building of characteristic agricultural products, and the regional public brand building of agricultural products; and explored the regional characteristics and existing problems of agricultural products’ brand building. Suggestions were put forward targeting the existing problems in order to provide reference for brand building of agricultural products, agricultural revitalization through quality and rural revitalization.

    The Relationship Between Leaf Area Index and Yield of Rice: Research Progress

    Leaf, as the material basis for constructing the rice organs, is closely related to the quality of the light environment and the utilization rate of light energy. The leaf area index (LAI) is an important indicator related to rice yield, and is significantly correlated with the light and effective radiation absorption coefficient in rice canopy. In this paper, we reviewed the relationship between the LAI in different growth periods of rice and the yield, and pointed out that the optimal LAI could be increased based on variety selection and cultivation measures, to achieve the high yield. The study could provide a theoretical basis for developing a predicting system of the optimal LAI and for regulating the rational canopy structure of rice.

    The key to the operation of the cultivated land rotation and fallow system is to solve the problem of rotation and fallow subsidy. China’s crop rotation and fallow mechanism started late, and its development is not yet perfect. In terms of crop rotation and fallow subsidy, there are problems such as the lack of legal system protection, the single source of subsidy funds, the unclear subsidy target, the difficulty of determining subsidy standards, and the lack of effective supervision of the use of subsidy funds. In order to ensure further advancement of the pilot cultivated land rotation and fallow, this research proposes to improve the legal guarantee mechanism of rotation and fallow subsidy, actively broaden the sources of subsidy funds, clarify the subsidy targets, formulate reasonable subsidy standards, strengthen the supervision of the use of subsidy funds and so on.

With the development of science and technology, the research methods of alternative splicing have gradually become simple, convenient and efficient, and more and more alternative splicing events have been discovered in plants. The article mainly introduces the mechanism and research methods of alternative splicing in plants, as well as the latest research progress of alternative splicing in several plants, and puts forward suggestions on the research direction in the future.

    With the acceleration of urbanization and industrialization, soil heavy metal pollution has been an environmental problem with common concern at home and abroad, and has seriously threatened the stability of the earth’s ecosystem and the safety of human life. Therefore, it is urgent to solve such a problem. Based on the introduction of the current situation of soil heavy metal pollution, the paper summarized the effects of soil heavy metals on plants, introduced the phytoremediation mechanism of soil heavy metals and the advances in the research of soil heavy metal phytoremediation. The paper put forward the research orientation in the future: hyperaccumulators should be selected to lay a foundation for the research on the phytoremediation mechanism of soil heavy metal pollution; the effects of microorganisms on phytoremediation should be the research focus; the research on woody plants should be strengthened, especially the research on the ability of indigenous plants with strong tolerance to soil heavy metal pollution; and the research on the safe recovery and rational utilization of hyperaccumulators after their withering should be conducted.

    Present Situation and Development Trend of Silage Corn Industry in China

    Silage corn has the reputation of "the king of feed", and generally accounts for about 80% of roughage in the diet formula of dairy cows in developed countries such as the United States. In recent years, the planting area of silage corn has shown a rapid upward trend. In 2016, the planting area of silage corn in China was about 1 million hectares, reaching 1.67 million hectares in 2018, and increasing to more than 2 million hectares in 2020. The number of silage corn approved varieties has also shown explosive growth, with 7 national and provincial silage corn approved varieties in 2016 and a peak of 50 in 2019. From the analysis of planting costs and profits in the national survey, the benefits of planting silage corn are relatively considerable. China has initially formed circular industrial chains such as silage corn seed enterprises, silage production enterprises, and silage consumption enterprises and so on, but there is still a lack of powerful functional departments and industrial organizations to promote the rapid development of the industry. An authoritative evaluation and pricing mechanism for silage corn products beyond the interests of industrial chains has not been established yet. With the continuous improvement of the breeding level of animal husbandry in China, people have gradually enhanced their understanding of the "double-high crops" of the utilization rate and transformation efficiency of whole plant silage corn. On the basis of becoming the main diet of dairy cows, silage corn will further become a high-quality feed for ruminants such as beef cattle and sheep, and the silage corn industry will usher in a new wave of development.

    Control of Postharvest Anthracnose of Mango Fruits by Luna Sensation and Nativo

    In order to explore the methods of controlling postharvest anthracnose by using fungicide in mango flowering and fruiting stage, Luna Sensation and Nativo fungicides were selected to carry out the experiment of postharvest anthracnose control. A total of 6 treatments were designed, including two application dose gradients of each fungicide, a prochloraz test area and a blank test, to compare the disease index among the treatments. The results showed that the fungicides used in this experiment did not harm the young leaves, flowers and young fruits of mango at flowering and fruiting stage, nor did they affect the ripening of mango. 7 days after harvest, the control effect of Luna Sensation sprayed with 1500 times of concentration was equivalent to that of prochloraz, and the control efficiency reached 72.73%, the shelf life could be maintained for 7 days. The control effect of Nativo sprayed with 750 times of concentration was the second, its control of mango anthracnose during the postharvest storage period was effective, and the shelf life and storage period of mango were prolonged obviously. The presence of a new succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor in Luna Sensation, named fluopyram, could work by inhibiting the activity of succinate dehydrogenase. Succinate dehydrogenase inhibitors impede the mitochondrial function by interfering with four subunits of complex II, inhibiting the production of energy and the growth of pathogenic bacteria. The fungicides in this study are consistent with prochloraz in treatment and have a certain value of popularization and application.

    Efficacy of Cyanene·pentazolol Application Methods on Controlling Wheat Scab and DON Toxin

    The best period to prevent and control wheat scab is on the preliminary stage of flowering. To explore the control efficacy on wheat scab and toxins when missing the preliminary stage of flowering, 13 wheat varieties in Jiangyan were selected for this experiment, and 48% cyanene·pentazolol SC was used to control the wheat scab. We designed three application methods: spraying 48% cyanene·pentazolol SC once after 6 days missing the preliminary stage of flowering, spraying 48% cyanene·pentazolol SC once at the preliminary stage of flowering, and spraying 48% cyanene·pentazolol SC once at the preliminary stage of flowering plus once after 6 days. The controlling efficacy of the 3 treatments against wheat scab, as well as their impact on the content of DON toxin in wheat grain were compared for each wheat variety. The results showed that the average control efficacy on diseased ear rate and the disease index and the reduction effect on DON toxin under spraying 48% cyanene·pentazolol SC once after 6 days missing the preliminary stage of flowering were 15.87%, 21.25% and 35.48% lower than those under spraying once at the preliminary stage of flowering respectively, and were 39.79%, 44.87% and 66.84% lower than those under spraying once at the preliminary stage of flowering plus once after 6 days. Therefore, the optimal first control time for scab is at the preliminary stage of flowering, while spraying 48% cyanene·pentazolol SC once after 6 days missing the preliminary stage of flowering has relatively poor control efficacy on scab and DON toxin. Spraying 48% cyanene·pentazolol SC once at the preliminary stage of flowering plus once after 6 days shows the best efficacy, and the performance trend of all the varieties are consistent.

    Research Progress on Enzymes and Microorganisms for Biodegradation of Lignocelluloses from Crop Straw

    As the byproduct of agricultural production, crop straw is an important renewable resource. Previous studies have shown that the main component of crop straw is lignocellulose. Some microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi can produce certain enzymes that are capable to degrade lignocellulose. The present study summarized the types and degradation mechanisms of lignocellulose-degrading enzymes, and reviewed the reported microbial species which could degrade rice, wheat and corn straw. In addition, this study analyzed the shortcomings of the identified single microorganism strain and microbial complex for commercial application, and discussed the perspectives and directions of future research. The review will provide reference for screening novel high-quality lignocellulose degradation microorganisms and developing cellulose-degrading microorganisms for resource utilization of crop straw.

    Progress of Transgenic Technology in Improving Staple Food Crops in China

    Aiming at the application of transgenic technology in the improvement of staple food crops in China, this study described the principles and advantages of transgenic technology. The research progress of transgenic technology in the improvement of staple food crops (maize, wheat and rice) in China was reviewed. Moreover, the main application of transgenic technology in disease resistance, insect resistance, herbicide resistance and quality improvement of staple food crops in China was summarized. At last, the study put forward future research directions, expecting that people can better understand transgenic plants and treat the application and development of transgenic plants with a scientific attitude.

    Efficacy of Metalaxyl-M·Fludioxonil·Azoxystrobin on Controlling Soil-borne Fungal Diseases of Peanut Seedlings

    Seed coating was used to study the efficacy of metalaxyl-M·fludioxonil·azoxystrobin on controlling the occurrence of peanut crown rot and stem rot. The results indicated that the control effect of three treatments (200, 300 and 400 g a.i./100kg seeds) of metalaxyl-M·fludioxonil·azoxystrobin 11% FS on peanut crown rot and stem rot was 81.92%-92.20% and 76.36%-86.10%, respectively. The peanut seedling emergence rate of the two test fields was 94.88%-95.75% and 93.63%-95.25% respectively, and the yield increase was 5.78%-13.14% and 5.99%-8.40%, respectively. Considering the safety, control effect and yield growth effect, metalaxyl-M·fludioxonil·azoxystrobin 11% FS has good application prospects in controlling soil-borne fungal diseases of peanut seedlings, and it is high efficient in controlling peanut crown rot and stem rot by seed-coating treatment. The recommended dose is 300-400 g a.i./100 kg seeds in field.

    Polyploidy Induction by Colchicine in Forest Trees: Research Progress

    Polyploid breeding is an important way to create and select new varieties of plants. Colchicine is the most widely used and effective reagent for plant polyploidy induction at present. In this paper, the research progress of colchicine in forest polyploidy induction in recent years is reviewed, and the influencing factors such as colchicine concentration, induction time, treatment methods and the methods for identifying polyploidy are summarized. It is pointed out that there are some problems in forest polyploidy, such as tedious and slow separation and purification of chimeras, urgent development requirement of new inducers, long evaluation period of forest polyploidy, and insufficient research on molecular mechanism of autopolyploid. Then, corresponding solutions and suggestions are given. The purpose of this review is to provide theoretical reference for forest polyploidy breeding.

    Water caltrop is an annual aquatic herb and important economic plant, and it is rich in nutrients. The stems and leaves of water caltrop could be used as feed, and the fruit starch content is high which could be used for feed and wine making. In addition, water caltrop could purify the water quality and improve the environment. This article introduced the bio-ecological characteristics of water caltrop, and summarized the research achievements in its function of water purification, germplasm resources, collection and utilization, cultivation techniques, and etc. The study suggested that the research on breeding and matching cultivation techniques of water caltrop should be enhanced to promote the development of water caltrop industry.

    Application Status of Integrated Planting-Breeding Circular Agriculture Mode in China

    According to the characteristics of the agricultural ecosystem and farming and breeding system, this paper summarized the circular agriculture mode of integrated planting-breeding which combines the planting industry with pig breeding industry or herbivorous animal breeding industry and the circulation pattern of rice field planting and feeding. This paper focused on the application status of ‘pig-biogas/ fertilizer-farmland planting system’, ‘pig-biogas/fertilizer-garden planting system’, ‘pig-biogas/fertilizer-grass’, ‘pig-biogas/ fertilizer-algae’, and ‘forage(straw)-herbivorous animal breeding (cattle, goat)-biogas/ fertilizer-planting system’, and ‘rice-fish’ farming, rice-duck symbiosis, rice-shrimp symbiosis and other recycling modes. It pointed out that feed conversion and utilization of breeding wastes are the key links to regulating nutrient flow in the integrated planting-breeding circular modes. Referring to the crop species and nutrient requirements of the planting system, the characteristics of feed quality requirements of the breeding system and the nutrient absorption ability of the planting system to the breeding wastes, to reasonably allocate the biological structure and time-space structure of the integrated planting-breeding system, and improve the nutrient recycling efficiency of the planting-breeding system are the key points to realize the planting-breeding balance. Based on the traditional circular agriculture mode, it is necessary to innovate and develop the environmental protection planting-breeding circular agriculture mode and construct a comprehensive management system of nutrient resources of integrated planting-breeding circular system, which can be the principal way for realizing the green production and sustainable development of planting industry, and livestock and poultry breeding industry in China.

    The Application and Prospect of Schisandra chinensis in Cosmetics

    With the extensive research and development of traditional Chinese medicine, more and more effective ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine are used in cosmetic products for skin care. Schisandra chinensis, as a genuine medicinal material in northeast China, can be used for both medicine and food, and has a variety of health and therapeutic effects. In recent years, with the continuous in-depth exploration and research of the active ingredients of S. chinensis, its medicinal and food health effects have received extensive attention from the public and academic circles. Literature studies show that the natural components such as lignans, volatile oils, organic acids and polysaccharides in S. chinensis have good free radical scavenging effects, which can enhance the body’s antioxidant capacity and delay aging. However, the research on the application of S. chinensis in cosmetics is relatively insufficient. Therefore, this article reviewed the application of S. chinensis in cosmetics to provide a theoretical basis for its development and application.

    ‘Yongyou 988’ is a new maize variety bred by Hebi Academy of Agricultural Sciences with T1932 from European flint line as the female parent and ‘Xun 856’ as the male parent, and it was approved by the nation for Huang-Huai-Hai summer maize region in 2021. In this study, the breeding process, parent source and characteristics, yield performance, stress resistance, disease resistance and quality analysis of the variety were analyzed. The study proposed that in variety breeding, we should highlight the exploration and utilization of excellent germplasm resources, strengthen adversity selection and improve ecological adaptability of the varieties, so as to breed a new maize variety with high yield and quality, wide adaptability, density tolerance and strong stress resistance.
