Rice-frog Planting and Raising Mode and Its Sustainable Development Strategy

Abstract:

Rice-frog planting and raising is a new mode of paddy comprehensive planting and breeding, it has been rapidly developed in rice planting area in south China and the Yangtze River basin, and has formed a certain scale in recent years. In this paper, we introduced the technical characteristics of the mode, analyzed the economic, ecological and social benefits, summarized the development problems and put forward some development strategies of rice-frog planting and raising mode by investigation and demonstration experiment. The technical characteristics of rice-frog planting and raising are mainly paddy transformation, rice planting, frog seedling breeding and releasing and frog feeding and management, etc. The development problems of the mode are mainly imperfect market mechanism, low degree of scale development, low added value of products, preferring frog to rice, and the overuse of frog medicine and feed. Finally, we propose suggestions for improving the rice-frog planting and raising mode, such as adjusting managements to local conditions, optimizing feeding and regulating water and fertilizer utilization, upgrading the mode and extending the industrial chain, which can provide a basis for the sustainable development of rice-frog planting and raising mode.
